I’m grateful to be able to share with you a glimpse of the Burden and Call the Lord has placed on our lives. We have been serving the Lord since the fall of 1997. We’re now in our 25th year of ministry (Sept. 2022) with the bulk of it being south of the border in Northern Mexico.
We spent our first year in Mexico attending a language school to learn Spanish. We then moved to the west coast of Mexico and helped start a church near Culiacan Sinaloa. This church continues to reach their area with the gospel, as well as supporting several mission projects.
After our first term the Lord led us to the Juárez area, right across the border from El Paso, TX. This is one of the last places I would have chosen, but the Lord made His will clear, and has confirmed it in the years following.
God has blessed way more than we could have imagined and given us the privilege of helping start 10 churches, all of which now have Mexican pastors. Our focus has always been on soul winning and evangelism combined with literature distribution. We’ve found that this naturally leads to church planting.
We’ve been able to distribute close to a million gospel tracts and scripture portions and held hundreds of open-air crusades in the parks around our churches. We’ve found these events to be highly effective in identifying prospects for the churches and giving practical soul winning experience to our church members.
Our vision has always been to train faithful men who can teach others also. 2nd Timothy 2.2 says “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” I’ve taught and directed in a couple different Bible Institutes that we’ve helped establish. We’ve now had more than 40 combined graduates.
We’ve had the privilege of ordaining 8 men who are serving the Lord in the ministry. We have tried our best to instill the same vision for Soul Winning and Worldwide Missions that we learned from our late pastor – Bro. Charley O’Daniel.
The churches now support several Mexican missionaries in Mexico and around the world. The Mexican churches are beginning to catch the vision for Worldwide missions and are now having a global impact. Watch this short video to get a glimpse of the past couple years.
Ministry Direction:
During the COVID pandemic, both the US and Mexican governments placed severe restrictions on what they called “non-essential” border crossing. Since our home is located on the US side of the border, we commuted to Juarez and crossed the border between 7-10 times a week, these restrictions had a severe impact on our ministry south of the border.
God knew long before anyone had ever heard of COVID that these churches would need their pastors to lead them during this challenging time. Praise the Lord, they have continued faithful and have experienced growth with salvations, baptisms, and even a couple new mission works have been started. While this was always the goal that we had, it came about differently than we had imagined.
Since neither Kelly nor I are ones to sit on the sidelines and do nothing, God opened up several opportunities for us while these restrictions were in place. We helped many churches, both English and Spanish while their pastors were unable to preach due to COVID or other illnesses. I helped a church in Colorado when the pastor was hospitalized just a few days before their missions’ conference.
A Spanish church in El Paso lost their pastor, and I, along with some other missionaries preached and covered their services several times before they called their new pastor. We also traveled to some churches in other states helping as needed and participating in several missions’ conferences. I even took part in a virtual vacation Bible school.
I was not sure how the Lord planned to use us, so, I spent several months seeking God’s will for our future ministry. Since both Kelly and I are fully bilingual we have had many opportunities to serve the Lord in the El Paso / Juárez area during this time.
There are 3 to 4 million people in this border area. El Paso’s population is 82% Hispanic – 35% of which speak Spanish only, so, there is a great need. The majority of the people in this region are clinging to their catholic background and are lost in a works-based religion, with little to no Bible understanding.
The Lord has impressed on my heart the great need of this mission field. It doesn’t matter which side of the border you’re on, the People need the Lord! In Juárez there are only around 25 independent Baptist churches and there are less than a dozen on the American side; English or Spanish.

The Westside Baptist Temple called me as the pastor in August of 2023. This is an exciting ministry opportunity that I 100% believe is God’s direction for our lives. You can learn more about this church from their website: WSBT.org
While our daily ministry in Juárez is no longer needed, we are still within just a few minutes’ drive of all the churches in Juárez. We’re available and ready to help these churches in any way necessary. I continue to preach in Mexico occasionally and am in contact with the leaders and many members of the churches regularly. We are excited to see these churches continue to grow and thrive without us.
The Lord has also allowed us the opportunity to participate in various gospel campaigns in other parts of Mexico. We plan to continue doing these campaigns as long as the Lord gives us the strength and opportunities.
We appreciate your prayers and support for the ministry God has called us to. Pray for us as we strive to see souls saved, lives changed and to train others to Serve the Lord in the El Paso Juárez border region.
May God Richly bless you for your love for souls!
